How does Cocos hot update work?

Cocos Creator uses a manifest file that lists the version and the md5 hash of every file. When the game starts, the AssetsManager compares the local manifest with the one on the server, downloads only the changed files, verifies their md5 and restarts to run the new content.

No update server to build yourself

Doing hot updates yourself means hosting packages, generating a manifest for every release and managing versions. The HotUpdate edition at ShopWebview includes all of this plus an admin portal to release, test and roll back.

Safe releases: testing, rollback, signing

Updates run in a test channel first and can be rolled back instantly if something breaks; packages are signed and integrity-checked before they are applied on users' devices.
